The winners of the 2010 East African Community Service Awards (COSA) and the Volunteer of the Year Awards (VOYA) were recognized on Friday, 10th December, 2010 at a gala dinner held at the Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi. The Awards seek to celebrate the spirit of community and the contribution made by volunteers in bringing positive change to society. Read the winners here |

| Past East African Community Service Awards Recognitions |

In 2002, Ufadhili Trust hosted the first ever East African Community Service Awards to recognise individuals and companies that have excelled in community service in the East African region. Subsequent annual awards have been presented.
To date, 45 recipients have been awarded this prestigious award.

| Fatuma Mohammed Mire, Wajir -Kenya |

Fatuma
is seen as a symbol of courage and determination to
many in Wajir, North Eastern Province. To others, she is a source of
strength, inspiration, and wisdom. Her actions of
championing for the rights of women through the
Wajir Women for Peace, opposing traditions that
marginalize women, providing a voice to those
unheard, advocating for conflict resolution and
peace building, demonstrate her efforts towards
bringing about normalcy and making the Wajir District what it
is today –peaceful. |
| Joseph Katto, Tanzania |
Joseph
Katto has worn the mantle of being HIV positive,
objectively and courageously. This has served to
create more awareness on HIV/AIDS and give hope to
those infected and affected by the disease . As the founder and
chairperson of Service Health and Development of
People Living positively with HIV/AIDS (SHDEPHA),
he has been vocal in advocacy for the human rights
of persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Volunteer Conference 2006 |

Ufadhili held a one-day volunteer conference in Nairobi highlighting the power of investing in people. It drew presenters from a cross-section of multidisciplinary professions, including the non-traditional professions, such as music and comedy. John Kiarie (KJ), a popular cartoonist and member of the comic trio,
Redykulass, and Eric Wainaina, a respected Afro fusion music artiste, offered tips on employing creativity to make a difference in society. |
